RSSBLUE - tools & resources
Maria Darms, ELM RSS – Really Simple SyndicationIt’s an XML format for syndicating news and the content of the web. It includes news-like sites, but it’s not just for news. Pretty much anything that can be broken down into discrete items can be syndicated via RSS: the “recent changes” page of a wiki, a new update on a product launch, a change log of CVS check-ins, even the revision history of a book. Mostly, any new information. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way, automatically downloading the new information onto your desktop, email, cell phone, PDA or other device. The great news is that like search, the content is requested by the recipient so it is relevant to their wants. Although a relatively new technology, in 2006 the tools for managing and measuring RSS subscription and reach became far more sophisticated, providing marketers with a more detailed understanding of feed consumption.
Second, 2007 will be the year that RSS subscription gets shoved “down the stack”. That is, more and more subscribers will not have to know that they are subscribing to something specific called an RSS feed. They’ll just say “I want to subscribe to this thing with one of the apps I normally use everyday” and it will just work. People who subscribe to feeds will no longer need to know to look for the little orange button and click. Brilliant Blue will provide content and distribution to either news sources (up to 9,000) or to your target audience (customers) to create value, buzz and loyalty. Through RSS we can help you:
