Jonathan Lawrence, CEO, TIMELESS ENTERTAINMENT Why Use Search Engine Optimization?Everyone knows something about search engine optimization (or, SEO). Everyone knows it’s critical for internet success. Everyone knows that search marketing spending continues to increase. That SEO’s strategic. SEO’s scientific. SEO’s creative. Everyone knows something about SEO but very few people understand what search engines processes are or why SEO needs to be performed continuously. What about search engines? It’s very simple. Search engines have three processes. Three. They collect data. They analyze data. They report data. That’s it. Search engines collect data via robots (unless your robots.txt file disallows them). Search engines analyze the statistical, content and code data they have collected. Search engines report relevant data after users initiate searches; search results pages are reports. What about search engine algorithms? It’s simple. It is their algorithms that govern preliminary analysis and search placement analysis which in turn will determine search results rankings. One could study Google’s patents with the hope of understanding what algorithms were used for a particular search rank placement but that doesn’t work. After reading patents, one will only know what process has been patented and what it may do but not how it will be explicitly used. Or, how many algorithms they have. Or, how many sections of how many algorithms are ever used. Or, how many sections of how many algorithms are combined with other sections of how many algorithms for search rankings of individual pages. Or, how many algorithms are used for each specific analysis. Or, how many algorithms have been replaced by how many newer algorithms which may have originally been different algorithms used in a different analysis set. Or, how many algorithms are used for identical analysis but for different purposes (like site authority rankings). And, there is one not insignificant consideration. Algorithms change. Search engine processes change. New processes are introduced. Sometimes yearly. Sometimes monthly. Search rankings change. Sometimes weekly. Sometimes daily. Then, there’s this: Did your page’s search ranking change due to changes in the algorithm? Or, did your page’s search ranking change due to competitive pages performing better than yours? Site owners should worry more about their competitors than algorithms. Algorithms change; competitive sites change. We worry more about things which trigger detrimental search results than the algorithms themselves. What about Brilliant Blue’s SEO? Our Search Marketing Team utilizes those same three processes. We collect data. We analyze data. We report data. We differ from search engines in that we collect four datasets: statistical, content, code and design. Every aspect of a website’s success (or, failure) may be found in those four areas. And, we utilize one other process that search engines do not employ but is far more critical for our clients continued success: solutions architecture (or, SEO recommendations). We offer solutions that help to resolve poor search rankings, poor traffic, poor sales. Effective SEO requires more than keyword research, selection and reporting. It requires effective website development; it requires effective website design;constant site analysis and benchmarking, based on key performance metrics, and a focus on achieving clear business goals.
